I was the kid that spent more time trying to get out of gym class than I did participating in gym class. I struggle to run the dreaded "Endurance Run". One mile of pure hell around a hot dusty track. With every gasp of breath I fell farther behind the pack and probably walked at least a quarter of it. My only motivation was to not be the last to finish.
A couple months ago I decided I wanted to run. I dug my runners out of the closet, downloaded the Couch 2 5k app (amazing how an app can make everything more fun) and pepped myself up. I ordered a double jogging stroller and impatiently awaited on mother nature to get off her rag. Normally this wait would be enough time for me to talk myself out of it, but I didn't. I started week 1 day 1 with a smile on my face and new sports socks on my feet. I alternated 60 seconds of jogging with 90 seconds of walking for 20 minutes. I gasped and sputtered through those first few runs, but each week got easier. I persevered and I am now 4 days away from my first 5k race. I am nervous, excited, anxious, but most of all I'm proud.
